The DPI and Nanango Shire Council approved these feedlots within close proximity of residents and the Bunya Mountains.
From the very beginning residents were lied to by the N.S.C with regards to the ability of the Council to halt these developements.
Residents objections for these developements were rejected by the N.S.C. It has now been proven that every concern that residents had over these developements has come true.
Odour, Flies, Illegal usage of B-Doubles, increase in heavy haulage traffic and property valuation loss - have all come true.
Residents were advised that none of these reasons were valid excuses and that they would not happen - MORE LIES.

Ammonia (total) 150,000 kg (06/07)
Ammonia (total) 78,000 (05/06)
(NPI figures) (*See Air Quality in Nanango Shire)
Health Effects and Levels of Concern
Ammonia is a strong respiratory irritant and can cause chemical burns to the respiratory tract, skin, and eyes.
Severe cough and increased mucous production result from exposure to ammonia at moderate concentrations from 50 to 150 ppm. Exposure to concentrations greater than 150 ppm may cause permanent scarring of the upper and lower respiratory passages.
RADS is an inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by cough, wheezing and difficulty breathing (bronchial hyperactivity) caused by inhalation of a high concentration of irritating fumes, gases or smoke. It is also known as irritant induced asthma.
The effects of ammonia exposure may exacerbate the irritant effects of inhaled particulates See 'Air Quality' (EHSRC 2002). People who are hyperreactive to other respiratory irritants or who are asthmatic may be more susceptible to the respiratory effects of ammonia.

Brooklands Residents in the Nanango Shire have had a 250 head feedlot situated 500 mtrs to 800 mtrs from their houses. This is against all their objections and petitions. Even the Nanango Shire Council wrote to the applicant with separation distances required of at least 1.25 klms, but they still approved the application in its location !!
Photograph taken when pens not at full capacity.

This is the original plan for Nooroomba feedlot for 1000 head of cattle. This shows the existing minimum buffer for effluent irrigation areas and manure spreading areas from water courses and boundaries.
![]()
This is the approved expansion plan for 9,000 head + the existing 999 head of cattle showing the new effluent and manure spreading areas - note no buffer zones required from Clapperton creek.
Compare the Plan with the real development to get the full scale!!
Already having problems sustaining the water supply !
Already have an odour problem !
Waste is going straight into Clapperton Creek - then down the Bunya Mountains and into the Dams !
And this is nowhere near full capacity !
This feedlot can be easily seen from over 45800 feet, (14 klm) (8.6 miles) in the air

This may interest people as these feedlots in Nanango Shire are on waterways leading into BP Dam and beyond.
" For example, manure from industrial animal farms can contaminate the water with E. coli, a common pathogen present in the faeces of animals. In Michigan (USA) in 2001, samples of water downstream of a cattle feedlot contained 1,900 times the states maximum standard for E. coli in surface waters. In Walkerton, Ontario, more than 1,300 residents were affected by E. coli poisoning, after the towns drinking water was polluted by nearby cattle operations."
"Most cattle begin their lives on pasture, but to increase weight before slaughter, most spend the last weeks of their lives in crowded feedlots, where they receive an unnatural diet of grain. Because of the crowded and unsanitary conditions, they often arrive at slaughterhouses covered in faeces."

The B-Double semi trailer issue has been ongoing since the approval of the Nooroomba feedlot. These trucks continue to utilise these single lane tourist roads to this day. The proposed upgrading of the Maidenwell Bunya Mountains Roads has begun - but with the widening of existing bitumen sections rather the the laying of bitumen on the dirt goat tracks to the remainder of Bunya Mountains Tourist road.

The following is a letter received from the Premiers Office regarding the use of B-Double Trucks on Maidenwell/Bunya Mountains Road. Even after receiving this letter this single lane tourist road was used for said vehicles.
